Your Website Doesn’t Need a Makeover. It Needs a Maintenance Plan
Liz Gibbs • October 30, 2026

From outdated website to booking machine.

Mia had run Salon Bloom for eight years, and her website hadn’t been touched in four. It still listed Tash, who’d left in 2023, the old opening hours, and a balayage price that made her wince.

Then a new client told her, “I nearly didn’t book. Your site looked like you’d closed.”

That night, Mia sat down with a coffee and did a stocktake. She opened her website on her phone and waited. And waited. The page took six seconds to load, and the booking button sat below a photo nobody could scroll past.

She started with the critical checklist. Every Monday, her salon coordinator, Jess, would check that hours, stylists, prices and services were current. Each stylist’s page would say who they loved working with, from bridal parties to curly-hair clients, alongside real before-and-after photos and Google reviews.

Next came the backend. Mia didn’t want to become a web developer, so she rang her IT contact, Dave. He made the site mobile-friendly, fixed the load speed, and set it up so search engines and AI platforms could read it. While he was in there, Dave found her domain name was registered to the agency that built the site and was due to lapse in three weeks. He transferred it into Mia’s name and set an auto-renewal.

Then she wrote down who could do what. Jess could update prices and staff pages. The marketing agency would publish a monthly hair-care blog. Only Dave touched the domain and DNS.

Finally, she added a chat widget for after-hours enquiries. Every chat and booking request went straight into the salon’s lead list, and Jess followed up by 10am the next day.

Three months later, online bookings were up 40%.

“Funny,” Mia told Jess. “The website didn’t need a makeover. It needed a maintenance plan.”
