ATO credit card payments: deadline extended to 30 June 2027

ATO Credit card payments are still being phased out, but taxpayers now have more time to prepare

If you pay your tax by credit card, you’ll reportedly be able to keep doing so until 30 June 2027. The ATO had previously said this option would end on 30 November 2026.

The extension follows strong feedback from small businesses. The Government will give the ATO transitional funding to keep accepting credit card payments until the end of the financial year, with the cost to be confirmed in the December MYEFO.

The extra time allows the ATO to work with affected taxpayers, provide clearer guidance, and consult on targeted support for those who rely on credit cards to manage their tax payments.

The policy itself hasn’t changed. Credit card payments are still being phased out; you just have more time to prepare.

📅 You can continue paying the ATO by credit card until 30 June 2027 (as proposed).
💳 If your payment plan is linked to a credit card, you now have longer to switch to another payment method.
🗣️ The ATO’s consultation on targeted support is your chance to explain how this change affects your cash flow.
