A fresh verification step is rolling out for super consolidation requests — here's what it means for you

The ATO is rolling out another layer of protection for your superannuation. From May 2026, anyone who has registered their device with the ATO app will need to verify a request before it goes through, if they're transferring or consolidating super via ATO online services.
It's a simple extra step, but an important one. This latest update joins a growing suite of ATO app security features designed to catch fraudulent activity before it causes real damage — and with super balances often representing years of hard-earned savings, that extra checkpoint is worth having.
A quick note on a separate ATO message
Separately, on 5 June 2026, many taxpayers received a wave of ATO messages relating to changes in bank account details. If you were one of them, there's no need for alarm — the ATO has confirmed this was triggered by a planned internal system update, not a security issue, and no action is required in response to that particular message.
What we'd recommend
Even so, it's a timely reminder to stay on top of your ATO app notifications generally. We recommend you:
- Review any real-time alerts as they come through
- Double-check that your personal and account details are correct
- Act quickly if anything looks unfamiliar or out of place
If you're ever unsure whether an ATO message or app alert is genuine, don't hesitate to give us a call before you act on it — it's always better to check than to risk it.
